Answer to RISK Matter Issue 1 Quiz: SOLAS, Ch.VI amendments of International Life-Saving Appliances (LSA) Code, introduced an increased mass of occupants for liferafts, from 75Kg to 82.5 Kg, effective from 1st January 2012. - Ships built (keel laid) on or after 1st January 2012 should carry liferafts approved based on 82.5 Kg mass of occupants, with any launching appliance approved for such load. - Ships constructed before 1st January 2012, may continue use liferafts approved on the basis of 75 Kg average mass of occupants. Launching appliances (davits) for 75 Kg. average design mass can continue in use, but if liferfat is exchanged for the new 82.5 Kg design criteria, davits should be upgraded accordingly.
